Man shot, killed at southeast Las Vegas extended-stay hotel

Updated October 1, 2017 - 11:27 am

A man with possible ties to gang activity died after he was shot inside of a car early Sunday in the parking lot of an extended-stay hotel suite in the southeastern valley.

About 4:30 a.m., 911 callers reported a man had been shot multiple times behind the leasing office of The Suites at 4855 Boulder Highway, near East Flamingo Road. Witnesses told Metropolitan Police Department officers they saw two people running from the vehicle into an apartment unit immediately after the shots were fired.

The 30-year-old man, whom police found unresponsive and falling out of the driver’s seat of a newer model Toyota Camry, had been shot at least three times. Homicide Lt. Dan McGrath said he was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died just before 5 a.m.

At least four people of interest were detained from inside the same apartment described by witnesses, according to McGrath. Once detectives obtained a search warrant, the suspect handgun was found inside the apartment, and officers picked 30-year-old Ramon Torres from the group and identified him as the suspected shooter.

The motive for the shooting was unclear as of Sunday afternoon, but McGrath said evidence at the scene prompted the assistance of Metro’s gang unit investigators.

Metro continues to investigate the deadly shooting; detectives are reviewing surveillance footage in the complex.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the man killed once his family has been notified. His death marks the 142nd homicide in Clark County this year and the 119th investigated by Metro.

Torres is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on charges including murder with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.
