A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a woman’s body in a freezer on Wednesday, Las Vegas police said.
Daniel Roush, 37, was arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder, according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release.
The body of a 68-year-old woman was discovered inside a home in a 55+ mobile home complex in the 5500 block of Tres Piedras Road near Cabana and Vegas Valley Drives after neighbors called in a welfare check, Metro Homicide Section Lt. Jason Johansson said during a news conference Wednesday night.
A person reported that the woman, who has not yet been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office, was known to walk her dog in the neighborhood regularly but had not been seen since late October.
Officers responding to the call arrived around 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to Johansson. When officers arrived at the home, nobody answered the door. But once inside, officers found a man and a woman who Johansson said behaved suspiciously.
The man was later identified as Roush and determined to have been “involved in the victim’s death,” according to police. The woman who was with him has not been identified.
Police believed that the two people were roommates, Johansson said Wednesday night. They were both taken into custody and Johansson previously described them as “cooperative.”
As officers searched the house, they located a locked chest freezer.
“When we do these welfare checks, we typically look for anything that can fit the size of the person we are looking for,” Johansson said. “So, we called a locksmith to open the freezer, and unfortunately, they did find the remains of a female who, based on description and age, appears to be the 68-year-old female that lived in the home.”
Court records show that Roush has previously faced several felony charges, including burglary, home invasion and possession of a stolen vehicle.
