Man charged in southwest valley homicide

Updated March 22, 2024 - 3:00 pm

A 47-year-old man jailed this week in a southwest valley shooting has been identified as a suspect in a separate homicide that occurred days earlier, police said.

Donald Holmes has been identified as a suspect in a March 12 shooting in the 5700 block of Ritter Lane, near West Hacienda Avenue and South Lindell Lane, according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release.

Police said the victim was in front of a home when a man wearing dark clothing was seen riding his bicycle toward the victim. After shots were fired, the man was seen running toward his bicycle and riding north on Steinbrenner Lane.

According to a Metropolitan Police Department arrest report, police tied Holmes to the killing based on text messages provided to them from a witness that were sent by Holmes, describing a previous confrontation Holmes had with the victim, 35-year-old Markos Sayegh.

During a search of Holmes’ home, police found spent cartridges which matched the type found at the scene. Police questioned Holmes at Clark County Detention Center where he told police that he and Sayegh had an ongoing feud because Holmes believed Sayegh was stalking him and trying to kill him.

Holmes was rebooked on a charge of open murder.

Before police identified Holmes as a suspect, he was arrested on Monday after running up to a man walking in a Spring Valley neighborhood, grabbing him by the head and shooting the man in the neck, according to an arrest report.

In that shooting, the Clark County district attorney’s office charged Holmes with attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon.
