Las Vegas police investigating man’s death related to sexual act

Updated September 24, 2017 - 1:12 am

Homicide detectives are investigating a domestic-related death that Las Vegas police say occurred after an erotic asphyxiation act Saturday night.

Officers responded about 9:20 p.m. to the 3300 block of Frontier Street, near West Desert Inn Road and South Decatur Boulevard, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Peter Kisfalvi said.

Kisfalvi said the two men were engaging in erotic asphyxiation.

One man was taken to Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, where he died, Kisfalvi said. The other man, who is in his late 50s, has been detained.

Metro homicide Lt. Dan McGrath said the two men were in a dating relationship. He said the surviving man told police the two were engaging in a consensual sexual act when the other man lost consciousness.

The man said he then called 911, and an ambulance transported the other man, who was in his late 40s, to the hospital, McGrath said.

Police are treating the incident as a homicide investigation, McGrath said.

It’s unclear whether the man will face charges, McGrath said. He noted there were no other witnesses.

“At this point, it appears accidental,” McGrath said. “He is cooperating and very distraught about what occurred.”

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the deceased once next of kin is notified, and will rule on the cause and manner of death.

No further information was immediately available.
