Las Vegas police investigate suspected homicide in central valley

Updated June 7, 2018 - 11:56 pm

A woman found dead in her central Las Vegas Valley apartment Thursday afternoon had lived there for just two days, police said.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating her death as a homicide.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a call from a maintenance worker who entered the apartment on the 5500 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard to find the woman unresponsive with blood around her head, homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said.

“The woman has lived here just two days,” he said. “I don’t know at this point as far as if there is anybody that would have targeted her, or if it’s random.”

The woman, in her late 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. She had not been heard from since Wednesday night, Spencer said.

“There is definitely head trauma,” he said, adding that it’s unclear how she was killed.

“It’s very early on, and I stress it is preliminary in our investigation,” Spencer said.

The woman found dead will be identified by the Clark County coroner once her family is notified.

Her death was the 93rd homicide investigated in Clark County and the 79th investigated by Metro this year, according to records maintained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
