First, the neighbors heard the screams. Then, police found the body.
About 9 a.m. Sunday, residents on the 1700 block of Rockcrest Drive, near West Vegas and North Torrey Pines drives, called police to report a woman struggling and screaming inside a home.
When police went inside investigate, they found a woman, possibly Hispanic, in her 40s who had been stabbed multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We don’t know a lot about her at this point,” Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Dan McGrath said. “We’re just focusing on her and who she is and who she may be associated with. There were no signs of forced entry.”
McGrath added that a neighbor said he might have seen a Hispanic male in his 30s or older with dark hair look over the back wall before someone in a neighboring home called police.
“She may have known the person,” McGrath said. “She may have allowed them in. We’re going to look into her and her relationships to see if this is domestic-related.”
The police have named no suspects so far.
“I’ve lived here for five years, and I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Frank Flores, a nearby neighbor. “We’re in shock because this neighborhood doesn’t have problems like these. It’s really weird when it happens.”
The immediate area was closed off while police investigated but has since reopened. The Clark County coroner’s office will release the woman’s identity when her next of kin have been notified.
Anyone with information on the case may call Metro’s investigations section at 702-828-4314 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
