Las Vegas man dies from injuries suffered in triple shooting
One of three brothers shot last Thursday in a southeastern Las Vegas Valley neighborhood has died, the Clark County coroner said.
Miguel Gonzalez-Campos, 32, died Saturday of multiple gunshot wounds, two days after the shooting on the 5000 block of Mountain Vista Street, near Tropicana Avenue.
Gonzalez-Campos’ youngest sister, Samantha Gonzalez, identified the three victims as her older brothers.
Just after 10 p.m. Thursday, Las Vegas police found Gonzalez-Campos and his two brothers, Chris Campos and Steven Campos, each with gunshot wounds. They were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
Samantha Gonzalez on Monday told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Chris and Steven were recovering.
“I don’t have words,” their sister said. “I wouldn’t be so angry or so upset if Miguel died of natural causes. This isn’t natural. It’s just evil.”
Few details surrounding the case have been released by the Metropolitan Police Department, but spokesman Larry Hadfield said Monday that the three men told detectives they believed they were going to be robbed just before shots were fired.
Early Friday at the scene, hours after the shooting, police said they were searching for a white sedan that was seen in the area at the time of the shooting. No suspects have been identified, Hadfield said.
Gonzalez-Campos was the middle child of a Peruvian family.
“He always worked two or three jobs at a time. He worked so hard,” Samantha Gonzalez said, noting that he supported Chris and Steven, who are pursuing music careers. “He really, truly supported their music.”
A fundraiser has been set up to help with the funeral and medical costs.
Gonzalez-Campos’ killing was the 106th homicide in Clark County this year, Las Vegas Review-Journal records show. He leaves behind his mom, four brothers and three sisters, Samantha Gonzalez said.
“He will be remembered as a loving, caring and kind-hearted human being,” Samantha Gonzalez said.
