Boyfriend suspected in woman’s fatal shooting in west Las Vegas Valley

Updated October 27, 2022 - 5:09 pm

A barefoot little boy crossed the street to seek refuge at a neighbor’s home in the west Las Vegas Valley about 1:30 a.m. Thursday after his mom was shot dead in their house.

“I opened the door and he said, ‘My mom just got killed,’” said Alejandra Verduzco, 29, who was alerted to the boy’s late-night knocks on her door. “I let him in, closed the door, and he started crying and he was shaking.”

Verduzco and her husband tried to comfort the boy, who was known to residents on Spectacular Bid Street because he frequently would be seen walking his dog. He would tell the neighbors he is 6 years old.

“I was like, ‘What happened?’ And he was like, ‘She just got shot in the head,’” Verduzco said.

The Metropolitan Police Department said they were investigating the fatal shooting of a woman in the 5800 block of Spectacular Bid Street, which is near West Russell Road and South Buffalo Drive.

Investigators said the victim was shot by her boyfriend, who fled the scene.

On Spectacular Bid on Thursday, the neighbors were still trying to make sense of everything that happened.

Verduzco said she gave the boy some pizza while another neighbor called 911. Other residents who live on the street and who did not want to give their names said the police were quick to arrive. A Metro helicopter came in overhead, and then within a minute, swarms of police vehicles were rushing to the house.

Verduzco said the boy was at her house until the police arrived.

“I just feel very sorry for the little boy,” Verduzco said.

The Clark County coroner’s office is expected to release the name of the victim after family has been notified.
