2 arrested in death of Las Vegas man found burned, dismembered

Two men were booked on murder charges in the death of a man found burned and dismembered in the desert three days after Christmas.

Jail records indicate George Earl Macaperdas, 31, was booked into Clark County Detention Center about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday on counts of murder, first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon and robbery with a deadly weapon, as well as conspiring to commit murder, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a deadly weapon.

Anthony L. Newton, 37, faces charges identical to Macaperdas. Newton was already jailed on unrelated offenses.

A homeless person found the charred body in a desert lot near East Lake Mead Boulevard and Marion Drive on Dec. 28. Medical crews arrived about 9 a.m. before notifying Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives.

Raquel Molina later identified the dead man as her brother, 33-year-old Ulyses Cezar Molina. She said he went by Cezar.

Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said in December it appeared Molina’s body had been brought to the lot and burned overnight.

His death marked the 168th homicide investigated by Metro in 2016, its highest total since 1990.

Both Newton and Macaperdas have prior convictions, court records show.

Newton was convicted of voluntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon in 1998 and served time for convictions of burglary, grand larceny of an automobile and conspiracy to commit grand larceny earlier this decade.

Macaperdas is under probation for a previous burglary conviction.

Court records show Molina was convicted in 1999 of two counts of attempted murder as a 16-year-old and was sentenced to 24 to 60 months in prison.
