Woman arrested in L.A. in death of Nevada man

MINDEN — Police in Los Angeles have arrested a suspect in the killing of a Nevada man at his home near Topaz Lake.

Douglas County Sheriff’s investigators say 38-year-old Jeanine Mona Escandon was arrested early Friday in Van Nuys, Calif.

Undersheriff Paul Howell said Escandon is being held on $1 million bail awaiting extradition back to Nevada to face a murder charge in the death of 59-year-old Norman Welch.

Howell said investigators also found Welch’s stolen car in the area.

Deputies were called to Welch’s home last Tuesday based on the report of a suspicious death. They said he had been shot to death sometime over the past two weeks.
