Two people arrested in Strip slaying near The Cosmopolitan

Las Vegas police are investigating a fatal stabbing outside The Cosmopolitan early Monday morning.

Police responded to an assault call shortly before 2 a.m. and said that a fight had broken out and that someone pulled out a knife. They arrested two suspects across the street from the hotel-casino after a brief foot chase south on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Investigators did not release the name of the victim, as of Monday night. He was described as a “Latin male adult.”

According to a police report, the man and his friends were walking south on the Strip when they were confronted by another group of Hispanic men. The two groups began fighting, and the victim was stabbed several times. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

It was the second stabbing on the Strip in less than two weeks.

On June 25, Andres Elena, 21, was stabbed to death on a pedestrian walkway linking the MGM Grand and New York-New York.

Police responded to a call regarding several people fighting on the walkway shortly after 4 a.m. Elena was transported to the hospital where he died of stab wounds to the chest. Victor Quijano, 25, was arrested in connection with Elena’s death.

In March, eight people were injured when a Navy SEAL ran along the Strip randomly striking people with a metal pipe. Luke Shawley, based at Nellis Air Force Base, was arrested in connection with the attacks and is scheduled to go to trial in August.
