Ton of hay goes missing

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for the thieves who stole a ton of hay from an Elko County ranch but they admit it’s a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Elko County Sheriff’s Lt. Doug Gailey said it’s the third theft of hay reported over the past year at the ranch in Lamoille about 15 miles southeast of Elko. Between 30 and 40 bales weighing a total of 2,000 pounds were taken .

Gailey said even if they find the stolen goods it will be difficult to say conclusively, "Hey, that’s my hay.’ "
