Suspect arrested after woman fatally stabbed

A Las Vegas woman was stabbed to death Tuesday night, and a suspect was arrested shortly afterward, Las Vegas police said.

Alexandria Victoria Whitmarsh, 25, reportedly was walking with a man on Giles Street and Windmill Lane when a second man walked up to the couple and stabbed the woman several times before fleeing.

Police said the man was arrested not far from the scene at Blue Diamond Road and South Dean Martin Drive.

Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Ronnie Long. He had what police thought was self-inflicted stab wounds and was taken to University Medical Center.

Whitmarsh also was taken to UMC, where she was pronounced dead.

Long was treated for minor injuries. He was booked in absentia at UMC, police said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is urged to call the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Section at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
