Sleep clinic owner sentenced to 27 months

A Las Vegas sleep clinic owner who and falsified medical records in a scheme to defraud Medicare was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison on Tuesday.

Dennis Allen Falls, 59, pleaded guilty in September to two counts of health care fraud related to bilking the federal health insurer out of about $230,000.

Falls was the owner and operator of Nevada Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders, Inc., in Las Vegas.

According to U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden, Falls repeatedly submitted false claims to Medicare for complicated and expensive diagnostic tests, such as sleep studies and pulmonary stress tests that were not provided to the patient or ordered by a doctor” or more than four years beginning in 2003.

The bogus claims made it appear as if a physician had ordered the tests, Bogden said.

Falls will be on supervised release for three years once he completes his prison term.
