Slaying victim identified as 38-year-old homeless man

A man killed last week at a central valley apartment complex was identified Wednesday by Las Vegas police as 38-year-old Bernard “Mike” Smith.

Smith, who is believed to have been homeless, was found dead in a doorway Dec. 14 at the Parkview Pointe Apartments, 3665 Cambridge Street, near Twain Avenue. Police said Wednesday the case was ongoing and investigators were actively seeking leads.

Smith was wearing a bright blue leather jacket at the time of his death. Police said he was known to frequent the area near the apartment complex where he died.
