Second man indicted in 2007 shooting on Strip that injured four

A Clark County grand jury indicted a second man in connection to the gang-related shooting of four people on the Strip in August 2007.

Markus Burton, 24, faces four counts of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon and one count of conspiracy. The superseding indictment included enhancements to the charges for gang activity, which could lead to stiffer sentences if Burton is convicted.

Prosecutors said Burton, a member of the Las Vegas gang Squad Up, took a handgun to an early morning brawl with rival Wood gang members in front of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, on Las Vegas Boulevard just north of Flamingo Road. Prosecutors said Burton then gave the gun to Robert S. Jackson, who fired five shots into a crowd.

None of the 20 gang members involved in the fight were shot, but four bystanders were struck, all of whom survived the Aug. 19, 2007, incident.

Jackson eluded Las Vegas police until he was captured in Chicago in May and extradited to Las Vegas in June. The 25-year-old faces 11 felonies, including five counts of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon .
