School District worker’s ties to sex sting get look

Clark County School Board President Carolyn Edwards is asking Superintendent Dwight Jones to look into allegations that a district accounting coordinator engaged in lewd behavior on the Internet.

“Certainly, what was presented in the paper is disturbing,” Edwards said Tuesday of a Las Vegas Review-Journal article about the accusations.

During a 2010 Internet sting to catch molesters, officials with Utah’s Iron County Sheriff’s Office said Darren Boyett, 45, masturbated in his district office, sending images over the Internet to a viewer he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Because Iron County authorities did not have the jurisdiction to arrest Boyett, the case was given to a Nevada law enforcement agency, which a police official wouldn’t identify. The case was then sent to Clark County school police, said Iron County Sheriff’s Cpl. Nik Johnson.

Boyett has not been prosecuted. As of Tuesday, there was no change in his employment status . The district hired Boyett in 2005. He is paid a salary of $76,440.

A call to his office phone was not returned Tuesday.

School Police Chief Filiberto Arroyo has told the Review-Journal that he thought the case was being handled by federal authorities.

Jones said Tuesday that district staff members are looking into the case.
