Quon released from detention center
Construction defects attorney Nancy Quon has been released from the Clark County Detention Center on $50,000 bail.
Quon, 51, was indicted and arrested earlier in the week on charges tied to a suspected suicide scheme that involved setting fire to her Rhodes Ranch home in October.
Her bail was reduced Thursday from $400,000, and she was ordered to surrender her passport. Police found the passport and $7,000 in her purse when she was taken into custody at her daughter’s home in Henderson.
At her bail hearing, a county prosecutor said Quon schemed to set fire to her home because she feared she was about to lose her connections at the Nevada U.S. attorney’s office and get indicted in a federal homeowners association investigation being taken over by Justice Department lawyers in Washington, D.C.
The Washington prosecutors also opened a criminal investigation into possible leaks from the U.S. attorney’s office to Quon.
In all, Quon faces five felony charges in this week’s indictment, including first-degree arson, conspiracy to commit arson and insurance fraud stemming from the Oct. 28 fire, which caused $250,000 to $300,000 in damages to her home.
Prosecutors allege Quon set the fire in a botched suicide attempt and participated in another suicide plot that involved obtaining illegal drugs, all in an effort to escape the pressure of the federal home-owners association investigation.
The nine-count indictment also charged Quon’s live-in boyfriend, former police officer William Ronald Webb, in the arson conspiracy. He is behind bars on $400,000 bail.
