Police officers in Taser death identified

The two Las Vegas police officers who used a Taser against a man Saturday with fatal results were 35-year-old Mark Hatten and 24-year-old Timothy English.

Hatten has been with the department since January 2007, English since June 2008, police said Tuesday.

After being jolted with the Taser, 44-year-old Anthony Jones appeared to suffer medical distress and was pronounced dead at Valley Hospital Medical Center.

The incident began with a routine traffic stop less than a mile from Jones’ home and ended in a struggle with officers. Police said Jones fled and then aggressively resisted the officers. He was shot with a Taser “several times,” according to Sgt. John Sheahan.

Hatten and English have been placed on routine paid administrative leave. Details of the fatality are expected to be disclosed during a coroner’s inquest.
