Police drop murder charge in stabbing

A murder charge has been dropped against a 53-year-old man arrested Sunday in the death of his roommate, according to Las Vegas police.

The Clark County coroner determined that a stab wound Jose Lara-Caamal is accused of inflicting on 36-year-old Jose Chan-Dzul did not result in Chan-Dzul’s death.

Police said Wednesday that Lara-Caamal could face other felony charges.

Chan-Dzul, a Mexican citizen, was found dead Sunday at the Pinewood Apartments, near Swenson Street and Twain Avenue. He had a stab wound on his abdomen.

Police believe Lara-Caamal stabbed Chan-Dzul three days prior to his death.

Lara-Caamal remains jailed.
