Man who committed suicide after allegedly killing girlfriend identified

A man who police say stabbed his girlfriend to death and then committed suicide by stepping in front of a truck on the highway Tuesday morning was identified as Michael Gebreneguse, according to the Clark County corner’s office Wednesday.

Police said the body of a 19-year-old woman, who has not yet been identified, was found just after midnight inside an apartment at 5711 W. Tropicana Ave., near Jones Boulevard in the southwest valley.

An hour later, Gebreneguse, the victim’s boyfriend, parked his vehicle at U.S. Highway 95 near College Drive in Henderson. He exited the vehicle and then jumped into the path of an oncoming semi-truck.

Police said the couple had been dating for 1½ years.

Gebreneguse, 31, was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
