Man shot, wounded by Las Vegas police identified
A man shot by Las Vegas police Monday evening was identified Tuesday.
Police said Allen Stout, 36, pushed his way into a random home at the Marquesa condominiums at 7200 Pirates Cove Road, near Tenaya Way and Westcliff Drive, about 5 p.m. Monday.
He held what “appeared” to be a handgun, police and witnesses reported, but police said it might have been a BB gun.
One officer shot Stout in the stomach about 5:15 p.m., police said. That officer was placed on routine administrative leave and was not identified.
Stout was listed in good condition Tuesday afternoon at University Medical Center.
Clark County Detention Center records show Stout was booked in absentia on a slew of recommended charges, including battery domestic violence, invasion of a home with a weapon, six counts of first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer with a weapon.
A woman inside the condo Stout is accused of breaking into, Janeen Placencia, told the Review-Journal that she called 911 after a “nervous-looking man,” later identified as Stout, knocked on her door about 5 p.m.
Placencia, her friend Heather Eschete, and four children were inside.
After the man knocked a fourth time, Placencia cracked open the door, and Stout barged in. Her reason for opening the door was unclear.
Stout ordered the women to sit on a couch and told the children to go to a bedroom, Placencia recalled.
At 5:10 p.m., Placencia dialed 911 again, using a cellphone hidden behind her back. About 10 officers entered the residence six minutes later.
Placencia said the man yelled, “Just shoot me,” at officers. She didn’t see the shooting.
Stout had been accused of choking his ex-girlfriend, who lived in the condo complex, about 2 p.m. Monday. Police were called to the scene, but Stout had already left the area.
He returned about 4:30 p.m., and the ex-girlfriend called police. Stout, apparently trying to hide, then entered the condo where Placencia was, police said.
Monday’s incident was the Police Department’s 13th officer-involved shooting this year.
