Man gets five years of probation in NLV shooting
A 19-year-old man was sentenced Friday to five years of probation with the first year on house arrest for fatally shooting another man in January during a drug-related scuffle.
Timothy Oliver, who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in March, was sentenced by Judge Linda Bell. He was originally charged with murder for the death of Ronnie Gibson Jr., 39.
North Las Vegas police found Gibson about 5 p.m. Jan. 2 lying in the street in the 2400 block of Lexington Street, near Carey Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Gibson had been shot four times.
Witnesses told police Gibson was selling crack to Oliver when the two began scuffling, court documents show.
Oliver, who needs a wheelchair to get around, was attacked by Gibson, according to his attorney special public defender Alzora Jackson.
