A man is in critical condition after he crashed a stolen car into another vehicle around 10:20 p.m. on Friday, Las Vegas police said.
Police noticed a 1999 Honda Civic that was reported stolen near the intersection of Lake Mead and Jones Boulevards and followed the car into a gas station on Decatur Boulevard and Vegas Drive. The driver of the Honda then took off onto southbound Decatur Boulevard at a high rate of speed.
Police decided not to follow the Honda for safety reasons, and lost sight of it when it ran a red light crossing Washington Avenue from Decatur Boulevard.
The Honda continued southbound on Decatur Boulevard and approached Kansas Avenue at a high rate of speed when it collided with a 2005 Nissan Sentra that was turning on to Kansas Avenue from Decatur Boulevard.
Both vehicles spun out as a result of the crash and the Honda struck two trees before finally coming to a stop in the landscaped area of 275 N. Decatur Boulevard.
The driver of the Honda was transported to UMC Trauma in critical condition while the driver of the Nissan was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
