Man awaits extradition in wife’s shooting death

A 66-year-old Las Vegas man accused of killing his wife in August is in jail in Utah on allegations that he fled house arrest in Nevada and tampered with the GPS tracking device on his ankle.

Robert Lee Marshall was being held without bail in Cedar City, Utah, after being arrested Sept. 11 on charges of possession of a deadly weapon and fleeing from justice, officials from the Iron County Jail said Tuesday.

Marshall is awaiting extradition to Las Vegas, where he will face a list of charges that now includes escaping custody and tampering with an electronic device.

Court records show a Clark County grand jury indicted him Friday.

Marshall’s attorney, Charlie Cano of the Clark County special public defender’s office, did not return messages Tuesday requesting comment.

Robert Marshall told police his wife was scared of guns and he wanted her to understand they were harmless. He told police he half-cocked the gun’s hammer so the cylinder would spin, and the gun accidentally went off.

Police have said evidence collected at the scene contradicts Marshall’s story. They said Dorothy Marshall’s wounds indicate she lifted her hands over her face in a defensive position.

They also say the position of the gun didn’t match the husband’s account.
