Las Vegas police have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with Sunday’s slaying of man in the central valley.
Marcus Washington, who was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Thursday on the recommended charge of murder with a deadly weapon, has a lengthy criminal history, according to county records.
Police said the shooting occurred about 4:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of F Street, near Harrison Avenue, west of Interstate 15.
Robert James Hicks, 43, died in the shooting from a gunshot wound to his neck, the county coroner’s office said.
Witnesses told police they heard eight to 10 shots fired. Hicks was found dead inside the courtyard of the Island Court Apartments.
According to a police report, Hicks and Washington were arguing at the complex. Washington went to an apartment where he retrieved a gun and then began firing at Hicks, two witnesses said.
In 2004, Washington faced several charges including murder, use of a deadly weapon or tear gas in commission of a crime, and battery with substantial bodily harm, records show. Those charges were dropped, but he was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon.
In 2005, he was sentenced to 24 months to 60 months in prison with credit for 315 days served.
And in 2010, he faced sex assault, ex-felon possessing a firearm, and possession of a dangerous weapon charges. All of the charges were dropped except possession of a deadly weapon.
Records were unclear on how that case was resolved.
