Las Vegas police investigating murder-suicide

A man whose body was discovered in the south valley early Saturday morning is believed to have been killed by his son, who was found dead hours later in Bonnie Springs, Las Vegas police said.

Authorities are calling the deaths murder-suicide. Identities of the deceased were not released Saturday evening.

Sgt. John Sheahan said homicide detectives are investigating. He said police first discovered the man’s body between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. in a vacant lot near Spencer Street and Pebble Road. The man had been shot, Sheahan said.

Police began looking for the man’s son, who was considered armed and suicidal. Sometime between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., an officer in Bonnie Springs found the pickup of a man believed to be the son of the deceased man. He was dead inside the truck.

He added that the investigation was in its early stages Saturday evening. No more details were available.
