An inmate killed at High Desert State Prison this month was identified Wednesday as a convicted murderer.
Gonzalo Antonio Tejada-Rivas, 30, died after an altercation with another inmate, officials said. The Clark County coroner’s office did not release a cause of death.
Jail records indicate Tejada-Rivas pleaded guilty in 2008 to murdering his girlfriend, Edith Calderon, a 32-year-old mother of four. He was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in Nevada State Prison.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation into his death, with corrections investigators assisting, said Nevada Department of Corrections spokeswoman Suzanne Pardee. High Desert State Prison, near Indian Springs, is the largest state prison in Nevada.
