Judge drops murder charge against mother in death of son who bought heroin

A Second-degree murder charge has been dismissed against a 49-year-old woman in the drug overdose death of her son in Elko.

Elko District Judge Al Kacin dropped that charge against Jane Ann Getty, but she pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substance Act.

Getty was accused of giving her 18-year-old son, Quentin Armas, the $50 he used to buy heroin the day before he was found dead in his home Oct. 20, 2011.

She told investigators that her son had been to the dentist for his wisdom teeth and was in pain even after he had taken two prescribed pain pills.

Kacin ruled there was insufficient evidence to try Getty for second-degree murder in the case.
