Henderson police identify officer who shot, injured armed man
The Henderson police officer who shot a Las Vegas man armed with two handguns about 9:30 a.m. Friday has been identified as Keith Massenburg. He was hired in 2008, according to the department.
The incident forced a brief lockdown at nearby Coronado High School.
Massenburg shot and injured Josiyah Meno, 28, who was standing near the entrance of an office building at 2779 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, east of Coronado Center Drive, where his estranged wife works. Meno’s wife recently filed for a temporary protective order against Meno, but it had not been served.
Police said the woman called them twice this month: once to allege her husband had battered her and then again Wednesday to report that he had left threatening messages on her cellphone.
Four officers responded to the scene and spent about eight minutes pleading with the man to drop his weapons, but he raised one of the two guns in the officers’ direction, according to police. That is when Massenburg fired a single round.
Detectives found a shell casing thought to be from Meno’s weapons, and they think he and the officer fired at about the same time.
Police said Meno has prior convictions in Nevada for robbery, burglary and burglary with a deadly weapon.
Meno was taken by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman would not release his condition.
