Gang crimes officer fires at fleeing suspect

A Las Vegas police gang crimes officer fired his weapon at a suspect in the southwest valley and missed Wednesday night.

The gang unit was on routine patrol and stopped two people about 7 p.m. The suspects then fled near Edmond Street and Flamingo Road. One of the men showed “some sort of movement” while running away, and an officer fired a single shot at the suspect, Capt. Patrick Neville said.

One suspect was taken into custody and the other remains at large, police said.

The shooting remained under investigation late Wednesday.

The shooting comes a few days after Las Vegas police officer Michael Carral fired his gun at a man and missed in a northwest valley apartment. When officers responded to a “violent domestic disturbance” Sunday, 37-year-old Marcus Bolden did not drop his weapon after repeated demands, police said. No one was injured as the officer’s single round missed the suspect.

It is standard department policy to release the name of the officer who fired the weapon 48 hours after the shooting. It is also routine for the officer to be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
