Funeral for Las Vegas police officer set for Monday

The funeral for Las Vegas police officer David Vanbuskirk will be Monday.

The service will be held at Central Christian Church at 1001 New Beginnings Drive in Las Vegas from noon to 1 p.m.

Church staff said they were expecting about 5,000 attendees. The service was expected to be public.

Vanbuskirk was killed Monday night during the helicopter rescue of a hiker stranded near Mary Jane Falls on Mount Charleston.

The veteran Search and Rescue officer fell while being hoisted to the helicopter. Police said he died on impact.

Several agencies were investigating the cause of the accident.
