Former Las Vegas attorney confirmed as appeals judge

WASHINGTON — Former Las Vegas attorney Evan J. Wallach was confirmed Tuesday by the U.S. Senate to become a federal appeals judge.

Wallach’s nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit was approved 99-0.

The court, based in Washington, hears specialized cases involving patent and trade laws, government contracts, federal personnel and veterans benefits.

Wallach, who will turn 62 on Friday, has served since 1995 as a judge on the New York-based Court of International Trade. From 1976 until 1995, he was an attorney in Las Vegas with Lionel, Sawyer & Collins.

There was no Senate debate on Wallach’s nomination before the vote.

Wallach, a native of Arizona, was rated “unanimously well qualified” by the American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary. He was approved without dissent last month by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
