Fire at counseling center determined to be arson

A Sunday morning fire at a central valley center that provides substance abuse and mental health services was an arson, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 7:23 a.m. at the Community Counseling Center, 1120 Almond Tree Lane, near Sahara Avenue and Maryland Parkway.

Firefighters put out the fire, which caused about $100,000 worth of damage, in 27 minutes. Three offices, the attic and the roof sustained substantial damage.

Las Vegas police officers saw the smoke and reported it. When firefighters arrived, the building was locked up and they had to force their way in.

Arson fire investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. The blaze is still under investigation.
