Ex-Walmart manager jailed in theft of $250,000 in goods

A former Walmart assistant manager was arrested earlier this week accused of stealing about $250,000 worth of merchandise from his store and selling the items over the Internet, Henderson police said Thursday.

Police said Jeromie L. Michener, 31, stole new electronic merchandise such as computers, video game systems, televisions and portable automobile GPS navigation systems. He was booked into the Henderson Detention Center Tuesday on felony theft and burglary charges.

Police said Michener admitted taking $10,000 worth of items from the Walmart on Marks Street in Henderson. But the store officials who reported the thefts to police suspect he stole $250,000 worth of items over two years.

Police said he set up a storage unit to house the stolen times before shipping them out after they were sold. When detectives searched the unit, they found 54 portable automobile GPS navigation systems along with various video game merchandise.

Detectives also found a binder with records of more than 150 items shipped over the past two months. Henderson police said the investigation is ongoing and Michener could face additional charges.
