An illegal immigrant already serving life in prison for killing a man with a pipe bomb explosion outside a Strip casino in 2007 has been convicted in Las Vegas of another bombing several months earlier.
Court officials said Friday that a jury found 31-year-old Porfirio Duarte-Herrera guilty in District Court of multiple charges, including attempted murder in the Halloween 2006 blast that destroyed a parked pickup outside a Home Depot.
No one was hurt, and Duarte-Herrera didn’t know the vehicle owner.
A prosecutor said the explosion sent shards of metal flying into a busy nearby street.
Duarte-Herrera could face more than 50 more years in prison at sentencing June 21 on charges that also include bomb making, bomb possession and destruction of property.
