Arrest made in case of Arizona man who died at Sunrise Hospital

A man wanted in connection with the slaying of his uncle in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., has been arrested in Long Beach, Calif.

Long Beach police said Thursday that 43-year-old Jeffrey Costa turned himself in at a substation Wednesday afternoon.

Costa is awaiting extradition to Arizona to face prosecution in the slaying of Wayne Lopez, 62.

Lake Havasu City police Sgt. Joe Harrold said Lopez was found bludgeoned in his home in the 3000 block of Star Drive on Nov. 2 and died of his injuries two days later at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.

Harrold wouldn’t comment on the motive, whether items were missing from the home or whether the suspected murder weapon was recovered.
