Arizonan gets 240 years in home invasions

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A felon who spearheaded a series of violent home invasions two years ago in Kingman, Ariz., was sentenced Tuesday to 240 years in prison.

Chad Weitherow, 38, was convicted of 37 felony counts, including kidnapping, assault, robbery, arson and other offenses.

Defense attorney Ray Lundberg questioned the fairness of mandatory sentencing provisions in Arizona that required punishment more severe than most homicide cases.

Prosecutor Doug Camacho countered that the sentence is enhanced because of Weitherow’s prior criminal history and the dangerous nature of the offenses.
