A dozen people killed by Las Vegas police since February

Stanley Gibson, 43, early Monday became the 12th person shot and killed by Las Vegas police this year —- a record number for the Metropolitan Police Department.

Nov. 21: Las Vegas police gang detectives approach Bernard Pate, 37, after seeing him act "suspiciously" in a courtyard near Sahara Avenue and Lamb Boulevard. Pate flees and is shot in the back and killed by Detective Casey Clarkson. A gun is found near Pate’s body, but police release few details. Inquest pending.

Sept. 9: Las Vegas police officers are called to a Walmart on 3615 S. Rainbow Blvd., where Marc Hull, 25, has been detained for trying to make a purchase with a fraudulent credit card. Hull pulls a gun inside the store and shoots officer Michael Rodriguez several times, wounding him. Officers Corey Staheli, Beaumont Hopson and John Abel, who have a combined 15 years of experience, return fire and kill Hull. Inquest pending.

July 14: For the second time in 10 days, a domestic disturbance call results in a fatal officer-involved shooting. Las Vegas police officers respond to the northwest valley home of Rafael Olivas, 23, who walks toward them in the street with a knife. Officers are unable to subdue Olivas with a less-lethal shotgun. When he gets close, officers Christopher Grivas and David Hager, both six-year veterans of the force, shoot and kill him. Inquest pending.

July 4: Las Vegas police officers fatally shoot Luis Carlos Silva, 54, the subject of a domestic disturbance complaint at a home near Pecos Road and Las Vegas Boulevard. Silva, who possibly was suicidal, points a gun at officers Raymond Novack and Nicole Gonzales, prompting both to fire their weapons. Inquest pending.

May 27: Two Las Vegas police officers, Robert S. Thompson and Baudelio Gastelum, respond to a domestic disturbance near Washington Avenue and Mojave Road and encounter a scissors-wielding man who has his wife pinned against a bedroom wall. They unsuccessfully try to subdue Albert Castillo, 35, with a Taser. During the incident, Castillo grabs the stun gun and one officer shoots him. That officer has not been identified. Inquest pending.

April 19: David Paul Gonzalez, 32, who served prison time for murder, is shot and killed after firing at Las Vegas police officers who stopped him for speeding on Flamingo Road near Swenson Street. Officer Patrick Burke, a 10-year veteran of the force, fires the deadly shots. Inquest pending.

April 12: Las Vegas police officers shoot and kill 52-year-old Abdul Hamlan in the garage of his home in the northwest valley after Hamlan points a handgun at an officer. Inquest pending.

April 4: Las Vegas SWAT officer Mike Quick fatally shoots Michael Dean Chevalier, 48, after Chevalier enters an apartment on 2895 E. Charleston Blvd., takes a woman hostage and sexually assaults her. Inquest pending.

March 8: Mauricio Hernandez, 23, is shot and killed at The Bar at 1987 N. Nellis Blvd. after trying to fire at Las Vegas police Sergeant David Toney, an 11-year veteran of the force, who entered the bar to conduct a routine check. Police later link Hernandez to the nonfatal shooting of a man about an hour earlier. Inquest pending.

Feb. 24: Four Las Vegas police officers, all with at least 13 years of experience, respond to a call about an armed man who is trying to break into apartments in the northwest valley. After an hourlong standoff, Jaime Padilla, 21, fires at the officers, who respond by shooting and killing him. Inquest pending.

Feb. 15: A man storms into a southeast valley home with a kitchen knife and later charges officers with the weapon. Tory Manvilla, 49, is shot dead by Las Vegas police officers Juan Guzman and Michael Henry, who have a combined nine years on the force. Inquest pending.
