15-year-old student arrested after confrontation in which officer pulled gun

A school police officer drew his gun on a 15-year-old student Wednesday after being assaulted at Green Valley High School in Henderson, according to a Clark County School District statement.

The altercation began with a student fight at noon in the cafeteria, which school administrators broke up. One of the students involved in the fight fled campus but was seen returning about 12:15 p.m. A school police officer assisted an administrator in approaching the 15-year-old male student.

The student made verbal threats and attacked the officer. His first punch missed, but the second hit the officer in the face, district spokeswoman Amanda Fulkerson said.

The officer drew his gun in an attempt to take the student into custody, but the teen fled. School police later took the student into custody at his Henderson residence and booked him into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on a variety of charges, including battery on a police officer and disturbance of school.

The officer was treated Wednesday for facial injuries.
