Veteran journalist to take position with Mob Museum
Longtime newsman Geoff Schumacher is leaving the business.
Schumacher, who has been involved with the Nevada news industry for decades, has taken a position with the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, or the Mob Museum, as director of content development.
Most recently Schumacher, 48, was publisher of the Ames Tribune in Ames, Iowa, a paper owned by Las Vegas Review-Journal parent company Stephens Media. While there, he also helmed Stephens’ other Iowa papers that served the Iowa communities of Algona, Story City, Perry, Grimes and Polk City. He held that post for three years.
Prior to his Iowa assignment Schumacher was director of Community Publications for Stephens Media, a position that included oversight of the View Neighborhood Newspapers and the now-defunct Las Vegas CityLife.
In the early 2000s Schumacher helmed the Las Vegas Mercury, which eventually was folded into Las Vegas CityLife when the latter was purchased by Stephens Media from Wick Communications along with the Las Vegas Business Press. An author of two books about Nevada history, Schumacher’s last day with Stephens Media will be Feb. 14.
