Two Las Vegas Sands executives resign
Two high-level Las Vegas Sands Corp. executives have resigned from the company in recent weeks, including the casino operator’s top official for global operations.
The company announced the departure of executive vice president of global operations Chris Cahill in a three-sentence filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday. No reason was given for the departure.
On Monday, the Morning Call Newspaper in Lehigh Valley, Pa., reported that Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem President Robert DeSalvio had resigned, effective March 14. The newspaper reported DeSalvio was joining Wynn Resorts Ltd.’s efforts to win a casino license in Massachusetts.
DeSalvio has been the president of Sands Bethlehem since the casino opened in 2009. He helped the company win gaming license in Pennsylvania for the hotel-casino, which was built on the site of historic Bethlehem Steel Plant.
Las Vegas Sands said Cahill would leave his position on March 31 and no reason was given for his resignation.
A company spokesman declined comment on the personnel moves.
Cahill joined Las Vegas Sands in April 2012 to fill a newly created position overseeing the company’s property operations in Las Vegas, Macau, Singapore and Pennsylvania. The position ran parallel to Las Vegas Sands President of Global Gaming Operations Rob Goldstein, who oversees the casino side of the company’s business.
Cahill spent two decades with Fairmont Raffles International and led the company and its predecessor organizations through several mergers as both president and chief operating officer.
Two months after Cahill was hired, Las Vegas Sands President Michael Leven signed an extension to his employment agreement that keeps him at the helm of the company until the end of this year.
Leven said at the time Las Vegas Sands would have his eventual replacement ready to step in.
