Viva Tours arranges tour for Chinese travel agents

Viva Tours, formed last year to build Chinese tourism to the United States, has a arranged a tour of 20 travel agents from Fujian province.

On this “familiarization trip,” the agents are spending three days in Las Vegas. They’ll leave Sunday to stop in certain California cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco, before heading home Jan. 10. The concept is that they will then promote the destination to their clients.

China Southern Airlines is sponsoring the trip.

Because of a loosening of U.S. visa requirements, Chinese visitation to the United States rose by more than 70 percent in 2012, Viva Tours’ Chief Operating Officer John Lin said.
