Vandals force closure of Lake Mead’s sole fishing pier
March 22, 2013 - 1:03 am
Lake Mead’s only fishing pier could be out of commission until Memorial Day weekend because of recent vandalism to the structure.
The pier normally found at Boulder Beach had to be removed after multiple pieces of the railing disappeared and a hot barbecue grate burned a hole in the deck.
The damage is estimated at around $6,000.
Staff members at Lake Mead National Recreation Area hope to be able to return the pier to the water before the busy holiday weekend in May.
The fishing piers at Willow Beach and Katherine Landing, downstream from Hoover Dam on Lake Mohave, remain open. Anglers also can cast their lines from shorelines or boats.
