State’s tourism director tapped for honor

An international marketing organization has named the state tourism commission’s director as one of its “Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in Hospitality Sales, Marketing and Revenue Optimization.”

Claudia Vecchio, who has served as Nevada’s director of tourism and cultural affairs since November 2011, will be honored next month at the Adrian Awards Gala for Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International in New York.

The organization’s “Top 25” list, in its 12th year, highlights contributions to the hospitality and tourism industries and honors industry leaders worldwide. The organization has more than 7,000 members.

Vecchio supervised the launch of Travel Nevada’s new “Don’t Fence Me In” advertising campaign that focuses on tourism experiences in the state.

The state has a strong emphasis on tracking return on investment with its campaigns and the association said that contributed to her achieving the recognition.

“This award is yet another testament to the steady growth and leadership Claudia has brought to Nevada’s tourism industry,” said Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison, who chairs the tourism commission.

It was the second destination marketing award Vecchio has recently received. She also received the Travel and Tourism Research Association’s 2015 J. Desmond Slattery Professional Marketing Award.
