New director named for convention authority board

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s board of directors added a new member at its July meeting.

Gregory Lee, CEO of the Eureka Hotel, was sworn in as the newest director Tuesday, replacing Marilyn Spiegel, president of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore.

Lee was nominated by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and will serve through July 2014. The Nevada Resort Association renominated Paul Chakmak, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Boyd Gaming Corp. He, too, was approved and will serve through July 2014.

The board of directors also approved a round of expenditures for upcoming special events and trade shows, totaling $572,500.

Of that, $147,500 was slated for a hospitality tent during the Oct. 1-7 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open; $375,000 goes toward sponsorship of October’s IMEX America Trade Show; and $50,000 will be split equally between the Indian National Finals Rodeo in November and the city of Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup International Showcase in February .
