Interjet plans twice-weekly flights from Las Vegas to Monterrey, Mexico

Officials with Mexican airline Interjet have decided to plug some of the gap in service to the commercial center of Monterrey, Mexico, by starting twice-weekly flights from McCarran International Airport today .

A year ago, VivaAerobus had four flights a week on the route but pulled out of the market in January. AeroMexico flies twice a week.

VivaAerobus, a bit player in Las Vegas, carried 42,630 passengers through McCarran last year, up 21 percent from 2011. The airline made no announcement about why it left the market.

Interjet inaugurated service to the Toluca airport in suburban Mexico City in mid-November and carried 4,150 passengers through January.
