Influx of charter flights due at McCarran for Mexican Independence Day

Activity will again pick up at McCarran International Airport due to Mexican Independence Day on Sunday.

From Wednesday through Friday, 22 charter flights will land at the airport from different cities in Mexico, as citizens there create a long weekend around the holiday. The normal number of scheduled arrivals by Mexican carriers during the same period is 20.

Last year, the holiday brought 23 charters, more than double of what is typical for other special events during the year.

Unlike last year, all of the flights will dock at the new Terminal 3. Last year, a mothballed wing of Concourse A in Terminal 1 had to be reopened to handle the influx of people, far beyond the capacity of the now closed Terminal 2.Contact reporter Tim O’Reiley at
