INTEL: Konami Circle, helping hands and CES eve
Soon, a tiny portion of Trade Center Drive might be renamed.
In mid-December, the Clark County Zoning Commission approved Konami Gaming’s application to rename its cul-de-sac at the end of the street.
The new name? Konami Circle, of course.
County staff and the planning commission previously recommended denial, but the application was for the entirety of Trade Center Drive, on which Konami Gaming owns 12 acres. Now the company only wants to change the cul-de-sac’s name to Konami Circle.
“I’ve been concerned about precedent with this,” Clark County Commissioner Mary Beth Scow said.
In the end, staff decided that people can easily see the name Konami from a distance and know where the street is, and precedent wouldn’t come into play. But, the gaming company didn’t get everything it wanted. Attorney Garrett Gordon told the commission he’d probably be back to ask for the address 1 Konami Circle, instead of the 585 Konami Circle it could change to. Scow told him she wouldn’t support that, because it could be a safety issue.

Las Vegas is receiving a little lift.
Wells Fargo &Co. announced that 59 nonprofit groups were awarded grants totaling $11.4 million for the UrbanLIFT Community Grant Program to help strengthen neighborhoods in 25 metropolitan areas, including Las Vegas.
Nonprofit grops awarded grants in Las Vegas include H.A.N.D. Inc. and Outside Las Vegas Foundation. Approximately $458,600 are available for each of the 25 communities.
“These grants will help advance stabilization in cities that were significantly impacted by the housing downturn,” said JK Huey, senior vice president of asset management and preservation with Wells Fargo Home Lending Servicing.

Sometimes you confuse us.
Leading up to the 2014 International CES this week, a public relations professional emailed one reporter no less than seven times trying to obtain coverage at the annual trade show. The reporter reached out with a story idea and asked to interview the big, national company about its product and talk about said story idea.
The spokesperson declined and said the company wasn’t interested. What? Really?
For the record, the story idea wasn’t controversial, it was just different from the idea the company had.

Speaking of CES, the convention this week is expecting 152,000 attendees and 3,200 exhibitors across 1.92 million net square feet at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Sands Expo and LVH. Big names such as Sony, Samsung and Panasonic will be exhibiting alongside iriver, AMD and Kodak.

In retail news, the official Britney Spears boutique, Britney: U Wanna Piece of Me?, has opened inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. The store offers branded Britney merchandise including clothing, accessories, home goods and memorabilia.
