Federal home loan bank will present foreclosure workshop

The Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco will presenting a free foreclosure prevention workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Boulevard North.

The session will aim to help homeowners save their homes and educate first-time homebuyers.

Representatives from Wells Fargo and Chase banks will answer questions about foreclosure alternatives, loan modifications and "underwater" homes, or homes worth less than their principal mortgage balance.

The workshop is free, but online preregistration at fhlbsf.com is required for a parking pass.

People planning to attend the workshop should bring two current pay stubs; their 2010 tax return; two months of bank statements; a list of monthly expenses; utility bills; their most recent mortgage statements and related correspondence; and a hardship letter.

U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., will be guest speaker.
